  2. Sparks Curiosity: The title awakens the reader’s curiosity. This makes them want to know the answer. They also want to know more details.
  3. Is Bold and Unconventional: The title may break existing norms or expectations, making it stand out more.
  4. Offers a New Perspective: The title promises insights or information that readers may not have considered before.
  5. Has Emotional Appeal: The title can evoke certain emotions. These emotions can be surprise, excitement, or even a bit of discomfort. All of this makes readers want to engage further.

Amidst the intense competition for content, uniqueness is one element that must be considered. The title must be unique and different from others. This means avoiding clichés and trying a fresh and original approach. To be clearer, let’s look at the example below.

2. Intrigue

The title must be able to arouse the reader’s curiosity. Honestly, finding this element is a bit difficult. Because you have to do research, especially on what trends are currently popular.

Usually, by knowing the popular trends, you can play on the reader’s curiosity. Or it can also be done by asking questions, making surprising statements, or implying the existence of secret or exclusive information. But don’t lie (clickbait).

Example:

  1. Less interesting: “How to Increase Productivity”
  2. More interesting: “One Fatal Mistake That Stalls Your Productivity (And How to Fix It)” or “The Productivity Secrets of CEOs in 2025 They Won’t Share”

3. Clarity with a Touch of Challenge

Even though you want to create a challenging title, the title must still be clear and easy to understand. Readers should have a general idea of what they will get from the content. The challenge is to convey this clarity in an interesting and not boring way.

Titles that use numbers or list formats tend to be more attractive. This is because they provide a clear structure and promise easily digestible information.

You see, when someone looks at a title, their eyes are naturally drawn to structured and easily scannable elements. Numbers and list formats give the impression of order and promise well-organized information. Psychologically, this makes the title seem easier to digest and provides a clear expectation of what the reader will gain. And as a reader, I feel this way when I find an article with a number in its title.

Numbers have visual and cognitive appeal. The human brain tends to process information presented in numerical form more easily. Numbers also give a concrete and measurable impression. When a title uses a number, the reader indirectly receives a promise about the amount of information they will obtain.

To be clearer, let’s look at an example.

Look at the titles below:

Ordinary title: How to Create an Interesting Website.

Title using numbers: 10 Easy Steps to Create an Interesting Website.

Another example.

Ordinary title: The Importance of Mental Health.

Title using numbers: 3 Reasons Why Mental Health is Very Important in the Digital Age.

What do you think? Which one is more interesting, without or with numbers? In my opinion, the one that attracts reading interest is the one that uses numbers.

Why? In my opinion, using numbers gives the impression that the information will be presented in separate and easy-to-read points. Besides that, it’s more convincing.

The combination of numbers and list formats is the most powerful. Titles like “5 Effective Ways to Increase Productivity in 2025” explicitly promise five specific and effective ways. This title provides clarity and sparks the reader’s curiosity to find out what those five ways are.

But remember, the promised number must match the content. For example, don’t create a “100 Ways” list if the content only discusses 10 substantial ways. Honesty and consistency remain key.

2. Ask Provocative Questions

Titles that contain questions that challenge the reader’s assumptions or beliefs can be very effective in attracting attention. Here’s the explanation:

The essence of “asking provocative questions” is to use interrogative sentences that not only seek factual answers but also stimulate the reader’s critical thinking.

It’s important to remember that using FOMO in titles must be ethical. The title must still be relevant to the content. It should not be misleading or create unnecessary anxiety. Avoid clickbait without substance, which makes readers feel cheated.

        • Leverage the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO): Focuses more on what will be lost if the reader doesn’t act. This could be important information, valuable opportunities, or advantages that others are gaining. The keywords are “don’t miss out,” “this is what’s unknown,” “secret,” and the like. The goal is to make readers worry about being left behind by others or losing something valuable.
